Bitts Park Carlisle

Bitts Park Tennis Centre and Recreation Area offer a range of activities for all members of the family. Tennis Centre - The Tennis Centre at Bitts Park provides all the fun and exercise you could want.

Water Feature - a brand new type of Wet Play using a 'state of the art' interactive water feature. The new addition to Bitts Park is surfaced with non-slip rubber and projects a series of jets, sprays and fountains of water.

Play Area - The Multi-Play unit is designed for children of all ages and abilities, featuring platforms of various heights and levels and an access ramp for wheelchair access. A Drag Ramp is included which allows children with limited mobility to climb to higher levels without any help. Kiosk - The Kiosk stocks hire equipment, and has a great range of hot and cold drinks, confectionery and ice cream. A public seating area is available at the Kiosk.

 

Swifts Golf Course & Driving Range

The Swifts Golf Course & Driving Range is located in the centre of Carlisle and has good parking facilities. This excellent practice facility is open seven days a week and features:

Hammond's Pond Carlisle

Hammond's Pond has been the focus of environmental improvement works thanks to grant funding. The Hammonds Pond Wildlife Group work in partnership with Carlisle City Council. Over 1,500 trees have been planted, a nature trail developed and willow spilling and aquatic planting in the main pond have been completed.

 

Tullie House Gardens Carlisle

The garden has had an historical make-over. New additions include a Roman and Jacobean themed features and planting. The historical planting includes nectar rich native plants which helps to attract insects and encourage wildlife to inhabit the area. The Roman planting includes a variety of herbs, which will be used for teaching Roman cookery methods and also for making Roman medicines.

St. James' Park Carlisle

Located in Carlisle’s Denton Holme, St James Park features a superb quality bowling green as well as two floodlit outdoor sports areas suitable for tennis, football and basketball. All activities are pay as you play, although it is wise to check before setting off as St James’ also hosts a number of local teams and leagues.

The park is open: May to September; Monday to Friday 1pm to dusk, Saturday 1pm to 5pm. October to April; Monday to Thursday 5.30pm to 9.30pm.

Stoney Holme Golf Course Carlisle

At just under 5800 yards, Stoney Holme Golf Course Carlisle provides a great day out for all ages and skill levels of golfer. With the tree lined fairways and water in play on no less than 10 of the 18 holes, this high quality course presents a real test of skill for complete beginners and experienced golfers.

This course was voted as one of the UK’s best value municipal courses by the BBC Golf Magazine, Stony Holme continues to provides a tough but fair test to all golfers who take on the challenge of the course.
