Walking
Take a walk along a section of the new Hadrian's Wall National Trail (84 miles long) and the 150 mile Cumbria Coastal Way or if you fancy something a little gentler, pick up our City Walks leaflet and try a guided or self guided walk around the city.
Cycling
Carlisle is the hub of national Inverness to Dover cycling route, crossing the Cumbria Cycle Way as well as the C2C route over the North Pennines. The Eden Valley Circular Cycle Route is a fantastic way to explore and experience the area. Fishing
The rivers Eden, Esk and tributaries can provide an excellent day out fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout.
Pony Trekking
Bailey Mill Riding Centre is located in the Kershope Forest.
To the North of Carlisle is the Cargo Riding Centre which provides BHS approved tuition.
Sports and Leisure facilities
Visit one of our six Leisure Centres including the relaxing Victorian Turkish Baths. Whatever you like to do in your leisure time, Carlisle has something for all, no matter what age you are. Information and advice is available from the TIC, The Sands Centre and The Swifts.
The Sands Centre in Carlisle is a major "Live Arts" venue featuring classical, pop and rock music. It also boasts theatre, drama and ballet productions from countries worldwide. The venue featues a Multi-Screen Cinema showing a massive range of films, or try your hand at Laserquest or Ten Pin Bowling for the more adventurous personalities!
Theatre lovers can experience moving and dramatic productions at the Stanwix Arts Theatre and The Green Room. If you like to take a bit of a gamble, make a trip to the Carlisle Racecourse for an very exciting and enjoyable day at the races.
